V&A — Savage Beauty Exhibition

A competition hosted by the V&A to design a poster for the upcoming Alexander McQueen exhibition that incorporates intricate laser cutting and high-quality metallic materials.

V&A Competition — 2015

This series of posters was created as a submission for a V&A competition focused on the Alexander McQueen exhibition, Savage Beauty. McQueen’s work is renowned for its technical artistry and emphasis on high-quality materials, attributes that were a central focus in the creation of this series. Taking inspiration from a carved, wooden bust I created the mock-up shown above.

Following the creation of the mock-up, the detailed illustration was converted to a vector and processed through a laser cutter to cut the intricate design out of card. To accentuate his style and use of opulent materials, I decided to highlight the carefully crafted design with bronze, silver, and gold cards. The pieces were presented to the V&A creative department and received very positive feedback. This was an excellent project that acted as a gateway, showing the versatile outcomes that can result from the use of crafting in the realm of graphic design.
