The Museum of Russian Impressionism

A graphic book commissioned by John McAslan and Partners to accompany the opening of their Museum of Russian Impressionism in Moscow.

John McAslan + Partners — 2013-2019

In conjunction with the opening of John McAslan and Partners’ Museum of Russian Impressionism in Moscow, I was contracted to design a book and coordinate all graphic materials and text describing the project’s inception, context, and organization.

To start, the building’s plans and elevational graphics were simplified and redrawn per the style of the presentation. The project’s complex narrative required the use of a variety of graphic sources and demanded a unifying and consistent narrative. The layout focused on the use of space to provide the high-quality images the space to showcase the project.

Finally, a series of laser-cut, paper-engineered profiles of the building were integrated to illustrate the rich and intricate layers of the façade; guiding the viewer deeper inside the building with every turn of the page. This was a remarkable opportunity and responsibility to create which culminated in the use of the book as a key promotional catalogue for the museum.
